Technical

Q: Are the Specialist and Scout compatible with all devices that have a 4-pole 3.5mm jack?

A: The Specialist and Scout are compatible with PCs, iPods, iPhones and all other devices that use Apple’s 4-pole 3.5mm jack standard. However, they are not compatible with 3.5 mm devices that utilize the OMTP (Open Mobile Terminal Platform) standard. You can purchase our OMTP adapter from our accessories page if you wish to use the Specialist and Scout with your OMTP devices. Please contact your device provider to find out if your device uses Apple’s 3.5mm standard or the OMTP standard. One other way to verify whether your phone is on an Apple or OMTP standard is by pressing the send/end button on the Scout. If by pressing down on the send/end button you get better stereo output from the Scout, this is a good indication that your device is on OMTP standard. In general the Korean phones (LG and Samsung) and BlackBerry smart phones are using the Apple standard while the European phones (Nokia and Sony Ericsson) + Motorola smart phones are on the OMTP standard, but there are exceptions so feel free to contact our Customer Service or your phone manufacturer for clarification.

Q: Why do I hear “clicking” sounds when I use my Apple products (iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad, iPod Touch) with the Specialist and Scout for phone calls and voice chat?

A: Apple implemented a new microphone recognition scheme on the iPhone3GS, iPhone4, iPad and newer iPod Touch series. We've worked out a design change to be recognized by the newer Apple devices and these have now been implemented on our newer production units. If you encounter clicking issues with your iPhone or Apple devicee, please contact our Customer Service to work out a return for rework purposes and we'll ensure your return unit is modified to work with your Apple devices.

Q: Will the Negotiator allow me to use my HDMI TV connection on Xbox360?

A: Yes, you have 3 options: Option 1: For the Xbox 360, you will need to use the HD AV adapter sold elsewhere which will allow HDMI coming out of the Xbox to the TV and add an optical port using the adapter in the back of the Xbox 360. Option 2: If you have already connected your Xbox 360 to output audio from your TV, and your TV has an optical out, you can take the audio from the TV optical out and plug it in directly to the NOX USB dongle with a Toslink to mini Toslink optical cable. You can then set up the rest of the Negotiator as instructed in the user guide. Option 3: If you have set up a receiver (with optical out) to control all audio from your Xbox 360, you can route all the audio to the optical connector and plug in a Toslink to mini Toslink optical cable from the receiver to your NOX USB dongle. You can then follow remaining instructions to connect the rest of the Negotiator.

Q: Will the Negotiator allow me to use my HDMI TV connection on PS3?

A: Yes, you have 2 options: Option 1: If you have already connected your PS3 to output audio from your TV, and your TV has an optical out, you can take the audio from the TV optical out and plug it in directly to the NOX USB dongle with a Toslink to mini Toslink optical cable. You can then set up the rest of the Negotiator as instructed in the user guide. Option 2: If you have set up a receiver (with optical out) to control all audio from your PS3, you can route all the audio to the optical connector and plug in a Toslink to mini Toslink optical cable from the receiver to your NOX USB dongle. You can then follow remaining instructions to connect the rest of the Negotiator.

Q: Why is my optical cable loose on the connection to the Xbox 360 optical input?

A: In order to secure connection push and make sure the rounded edges of the optical cable are aligned with the input and firmly push in until you hear the clicking engagement sound.

Q: Will the Negotiator charge my PS3 or Xbox 360 controller when it is plugged into it?

A: No. The Negotiator will not charge the controllers when it is plugged into it.

A: Audio should be playing through the headphone or headset now. You can choose to ignore the prompt or go to your Control Panel under Sounds and Audio Devices. There is a tab for Voice and you can select the device for NOX Audio USB Dongle for the voice playback and voice recording default device.

Q: I hear a scratching sound in my game audio, what do I do?

A: Please double check all the connections starting at the optical cable. The optical cable should be firmly snapped into the back of the PS3 or Xbox 360 optical output. Also check the connection of the 3.5mm audio plug that is inserted into the Negotiator controller. Ensure there is full engagement into the connector. Typically the scratching sounds are an indication of intermittent connection.

Q: How do I set up my Specialist Negotiator bundle if I am already using a separate source for audio out from my PS3 or Xbox 360 console?

A: The Toslink Optical cable allows for the game audio to be plugged into the USB dongle from various sources. If you have a Toslink optical audio out from your TV or a receiver, you can find a Toslink to mini Toslink optical cable with your desired length and plug this from the TV or receiver into the NOX USB dongle to receive your game audio.

Q: What does it mean when I hear a loud static sound when I turn on my PS3 and when I am in a game?

A: The audio output settings may be incorrect on your PS3. Please go to Settings, check the Sound settings and select Audio Output Settings. Scroll down to select Optical Digital and only place a checkmark next to "Linear PCM 2 Ch. 44.1kHz" and "Linear PCM 2 Ch. 48 kHz". Confirm these settings.
